Attractive accommodation situated in the heart of Boulogne old town

In the heart of the beautiful inner old walled part of Boulogne, close to the cathedral, you will find this charming 2 bedroom house to rent. Located 30 yards from the Ephemeral garden outside the Mairie, and less than a minutes walk from a fantastic selection of restaurants in Rue de Lille

Plenty to see in Boulogne including the crypt at the cathedral, and the Nausica aquarium. Boulogne is a great place if travelling further South in France, either on the way down or back up and makes a great place to stop off to buy wine when driving back to the UK.

Directions

If coming from Calais, or the Channel Tunnel, follow directions to Boulogne on the A16. Keep on the A16 to junction 32 (clearly marked for Boulogne).
When you get neat to the old town (‘vieille ville’ in French) you will find that it surrounded by a medieval wall. There are limited places to enter and leave by car. See maps

There is no parking at the property so it is recommended to enter at the top entrance, and to park at Enclos de l'Évêché and then walk to Rue de la Providence. If you have a lot of luggage, drive around the old town wall, to the Eastern entrance. Stop very briefly just past the house to unload, and then park at Enclos de l'Évêché. Note that there is only one way out by car.

Restaurants and Bars

Half a minute’s walk from the house, you come to Rue de Lille. This road was originally called Rue de la Cuisinière as this is where all the cooking goes on. This is a charming cobbled and pedestrianized road. Including the square next to it by the gardens, there are over 12 restaurants. I have eaten at most of them and not once have I had a bad meal.

For a drink before or after a meal, there are also three bars on Rue de Lille. La Cave de Monsieur
Guy, The Froggy Blues, and The Vole Hole, plus Le Bouillon on Place Godefroy de Bouillon. I have enjoyed good times at all four.

Places to go

  • Crypte de la Basilique Notre-Dame

Below the Cathedral on Rue de Lille is the Crypt. This is a fascinating tour. Headphones are available with English audio.

  • Château musee (Castle musuem of Boulogne-sur-Mer)

A great museum, it regularly has new exhibitions.

  • Nausicaá National Sea Center

You will need to drive here, but worth it as this is one of the best aquariums that I have been to. Make sure you allow plenty of time to spend a whole morning or afternoon here.
